Aditya Vashistha

Aditya Vashistha is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Science at Cornell University’s Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science and directs the Cornell Global AI Initiative. His research designs, builds, and evaluates safe and globally equitable AI systems. Combining human-centered methods, computational evaluations, and field studies, he examines how AI works across diverse cultural and socioeconomic contexts. His work spans AI and culture, AI safety, and AI for social impact, as well as HCI, ICTD, human-centered AI, responsible AI, accessibility, and social computing.

Representative work includes Shiksha Copilot for teachers in low-resource Indian schools; research on how generative AI suggestions homogenize writing toward Western styles; data-driven advocacy in home health care; the ReCall voice crowdsourcing system; and social-media and voice-interface research with low-income blind people in India. His work has received best-paper awards or honorable mentions at CHI, FAccT, CSCW, and ASSETS. He has also received the William Chan Memorial Dissertation Award, the WAGS/ProQuest Innovation in Technology Award, and Cornell’s Community-Engaged Practice and Innovation Award.
