Farhana Shahid

Farhana Shahid is a researcher in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and a fifth-year PhD candidate in Information Science at Cornell University, advised by Professor Aditya Vashistha. Her research focuses on online governance, trust and safety issues, with a particular emphasis on cultural sensitivities and systematic challenges in managing harmful online content in the Global South. Previously, she completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer Science and Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), under the supervision of Professor A. B. M. Alim Al Islam.

Farhana's academic contributions span critical areas including examining the colonial implications on online governance and developing culturally sensitive frameworks for online governance. Additionally, she is an experienced educator, having worked as a lecturer at multiple universities. Her research and teaching efforts demonstrate a deep understanding and commitment to addressing issues in the Global South.
