Ye Yuan

Irene Ye Yuan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computing and Software at McMaster University. Her research focuses on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), with a particular emphasis on social computing and collaborative computing. Her work involves designing and developing multimodal and embodied interaction technologies to create meaningful social experiences, with a special focus on intergenerational communication and connection. Irene earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota and her Master's in Human-Computer Interaction and Design from the University of Washington. Her research combines ethnography, design, and mixed methods to design technology interventions that address real-world needs, evaluated using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Her contributions to research have been recognized with numerous international academic awards, including the CHI Honorable Mention Award, the IMWUT Distinguished Paper Award, and the IDC Best Paper Award.
