Kenneth Holstein

Kenneth Holstein is the Robert E. Kraut Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon University's Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII) and the director of CMU CoALA Lab. His research spans human-computer interaction (HCI), artificial intelligence (AI), design, cognitive science, learning sciences, statistics, and machine learning. His work aims to advance human capabilities and expertise through the design of AI systems, rather than merely substituting human activities. He focuses particularly on the impact of AI on human work, designing systems that respect and enhance human labor and expertise. Kenneth's research is supported by multiple agencies and companies, including the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Microsoft Research, Google Research, and Amazon Research.
