Emily Tseng

Emily Tseng is a researcher specializing in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and computer security and privacy. Her work examines the role of computing technologies in individual, societal, and structural harm, striving to reconceptualize the design, construction, and governance of data-driven systems through theories of social responsibility, such as care, participation, and cooperation. She collaborates closely with impacted communities to co-design and test solutions aimed at improving digital safety and wellbeing. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Microsoft Research, while also operating the Clinic to End Tech Abuse (CETA), supporting survivors of technology abuse in intimate partner violence. Emily’s research has been published in top venues including ACM CHI, CSCW, and USENIX Security, where she has received multiple Best Paper Awards and Honorable Mentions. Starting in 2025, she will join the University of Washington as an assistant professor in the department of Human Centered Design & Engineering.
