William Odom

Dr. William Odom is an Associate Professor in Simon Fraser University’s School of Interactive Arts and Technology and the founder and director of the Homeware Lab. He takes an interdisciplinary, collaborative, design-oriented approach to human-computer interaction research, focusing on longer-term human–technology and human–data relations in everyday life. His interests include slow interaction, temporal design, digital possessions and archives, domestic computing, the Internet of Things, digital fabrication, speculative design, and research through design. The SFU faculty profile reports more than 120 peer-reviewed publications at venues including ACM CHI, DIS, Ubicomp, CSCW, Creativity & Cognition, and Design Issues.

His Technology Heirlooms project, developed in collaboration with Microsoft Research, received a silver IDEA award for design research from the Industrial Designers Society of America. He also won the Imagine Cup interaction-design competition held at the Louvre in Paris.SFU faculty profile
