Chenxinran Shen

Chenxinran Elise Shen is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto, supervised by Professor Daniel Wigdor. Her research lies at the intersection of Computer Mediated Communication (CMC), Creativity Support, and Human-AI Collaboration, with a particular focus on how changes in audio and visual modalities affect self-perception and the perception of others. Chenxinran is dedicated to designing and evaluating interactive systems powered by Large Language Models (LLM) and Virtual Reality (VR). Through system design, prototyping, and mixed-methods user research, she explores the impact of these systems on user perception, social interaction, practical usability, and trust. She has received multiple awards at the top-tier CHI conference, including "Best Paper Honorable Mention Awards" (Top 5%) in 2021 and 2024. Before pursuing her doctoral degree, she completed a Master's degree in Computer Science at the University of British Columbia, where she collaborated with Professors Joanna McGrenere and Dongwook Yoon.
