Cassidy Pyle

Cassidy Pyle is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Michigan School of Information. Her research explores how social media and algorithmic systems impact the overall well-being of vulnerable populations, particularly in social, emotional, professional, and educational contexts. Her research interests include human-computer interaction (HCI), social computing, and the application of AI technologies in people's lives. Pyle’s current work focuses on how first-generation, low-income college students use social media in their college application and decision-making processes, and how social media platforms can be designed to better serve these populations. Her dissertation investigates how discussions about affirmative action on social media influence minority students' sense of belonging and social outcomes. Her academic work has been published in top-tier venues such as ACM CHI and ACM CSCW. She has also received numerous scholarships and grants, including the Rackham Merit Fellowship and the Anti-Racism Graduate Research Grant.
