David Coyle

David Coyle is an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science at University College Dublin and a founding member of the HCI@UCD research group. His primary research areas are Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Digital Health, with a particular focus on digital mental health. He excels in leading multidisciplinary and multi-institutional research projects, having led and participated in numerous large-scale initiatives. He has been highly successful in securing research funding, with awards totaling over €7.5 million, of which over €5.2 million was secured as Principal Investigator. His research interests include online mental health technologies, game- and mobile-based mental health applications, blended Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), user autonomy, and the sense of agency in human-computer collaboration. He previously served as a Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol. Currently, he is the UCD site director for the SFI-funded ENABLE Centre for Digital Enhanced Realities and is involved in research at the national Insight and Adapt centres.
