Hernisa Kacorri

Hernisa Kacorri is an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland, College of Information Studies. She is also a member of the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS) and a core researcher at the Human-Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL) at the University of Maryland. Her research focuses on accessibility technologies and human-centered artificial intelligence, with an emphasis on solving real-world problems through data-driven and human-computer interaction technologies. Her work often involves assistive technologies developed for individuals with disabilities, such as modeling human behavior for sign language animation and technologies aiding independent mobility for individuals with visual impairments. Her research has received multiple accolades, including the ACM ASSETS Best Paper Award and the ACM CHI Honorable Mention Award. Dr. Kacorri earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Graduate Center at the City University of New York, and has conducted research at institutions including the University of Athens, IBM Tokyo Research Laboratory, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and Carnegie Mellon University.
