Kai Lukoff

Dr. Kai Lukoff is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Santa Clara University, where he leads the Human-Computer Interaction Lab (HCI Lab). His work focuses on human-computer interaction, exploring how digital interfaces influence user experience and perceptions of autonomy. His research examines how the design of social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube) affects digital well-being and validates design improvements through field experiments. Additionally, he collaborates with Native American communities, using augmented reality to showcase the history and culture of the Ohlone tribe. His work has been published in top academic journals and earned the ACM SIGCHI 2023 Outstanding Paper Award. Previously, he worked for six years as a product manager in China's mobile internet startup scene.
