Nicolai Marquardt

Nicolai Marquardt is a Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research, affiliated with the EPIC (Extended Perception Interaction and Cognition) and HCAIX (Human-Computer Interaction and AI Experiences) research groups. His research focuses on Human-Computer Interaction, collaborative systems, cross-device interaction, sensor-driven systems, and generative artificial intelligence. Previously, he was a Professor of Physical Computing at University College London (UCL), leading research projects on interactive design and innovation. Nicolai has authored academic books including Sketching User Experiences Workbook and Proxemic Interactions: From Theory to Practice, and has received multiple ACM CHI and ISS Best Paper Awards and a Ten-Year Impact Award. His research aims to develop AI-supported technologies and tools to enhance user experiences, as well as design innovative prototypes for multi-device and spatial interaction.
