Carl DiSalvo

Carl DiSalvo is an Associate Professor in the Digital Media program at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the director of the Public Design Workshop. His research spans design research, democracy and design, digital civic technologies, and smart cities. He is committed to examining the intersections of design with social and political contexts, promoting new forms of collective action. His significant publications include Adversarial Design and Design as Democratic Inquiry, and he serves as an editor for the academic journal Design Issues. DiSalvo holds a PhD in Design from Carnegie Mellon University and has been a postdoctoral fellow at the Studio for Creative Inquiry and the Center for the Arts in Society. He actively engages in community and public design efforts, investigating how participatory design can construct public spheres and foster social innovation.
