Gary Hsieh

Gary Hsieh is a scholar specializing in Human-Computer Interaction and Social Computing, currently serving as a professor in the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) at the University of Washington. His research focuses on designing and developing systems that motivate people to improve their well-being and behaviors, addressing applications such as behavior change, online support and Q&A, and civic and local engagement. Gary Hsieh holds a PhD in Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University and is a recipient of the 2013 NSF CAREER Award. He previously served as an assistant professor at Michigan State University and was honored to be a Fulbright Scholar at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan during 2019-2020, fostering international academic exchanges.
