Margot Brereton

Margot Brereton is a Professor of Engineering and Interaction Design in the Faculty of Computer Science at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and an internationally recognized leader in the field of Human-Computer Interaction. She is dedicated to collaboratively designing new humanitarian technologies while working with underrepresented user groups including the elderly, autistic children, neurodiverse populations, and advocates for endangered Indigenous languages. Her research focuses on designing innovative systems that integrate into people’s lives through physical interaction, connected interfaces, and artificial intelligence technologies. Professor Brereton began her career as an apprentice at Rolls-Royce Aerospace Engines before completing her PhD in Mechanical Engineering Design at Stanford University. She has published more than 250 peer-reviewed research papers, supervised 25 PhD graduates, and earned several international academic awards.
