Mustafa Naseem

Mustafa Naseem is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan School of Information, focusing on leveraging technology to address information inequities, particularly among South Asia and U.S. refugee populations. His research revolves around three key areas: designing voice-based and mobile health information systems for low-literacy populations, addressing technology-driven gender-based violence and creating digital safe spaces, and exploring how refugee and immigrant communities develop digital literacy and adapt to new sociotechnical environments. His work emphasizes deep collaboration with local governments, NGOs, and community organizations to ensure sustainability and policy relevance. His research has won multiple awards and has been supported by organizations such as NSF, NIH, the Gates Foundation, USAID, and UNICEF. Additionally, he previously served as an ICTD Resident Expert at the University of Colorado, where he mentored numerous design and entrepreneurship projects across Africa, Asia, and North America.
