Karla Badillo-Urquiola

Karla Badillo-Urquiola is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Notre Dame, as well as a Research Fellow at the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society. As a Latinx woman in STEM, she is dedicated to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity in the field of computing. Her research focuses on human-computer interaction, social computing, online safety, privacy and security, and digital technologies for children and marginalized communities. She specializes in studying adolescent online safety through human-centered and participatory design methods, with a particular emphasis on the online safety of foster youth. Her work has received awards for Best Paper, Honorable Mention, and Impact at top international HCI conferences and has been covered by various media outlets. She actively mentors underrepresented students in exploring graduate education pathways and discovering their potential in computing research.
