Shion Guha

Shion Guha is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Information, with a joint appointment in the Department of Computer Science. He specializes in the field of human-centered data science, combining technical methodologies with interpretive research to address bias and structural inequality in sociotechnical systems. Shion Guha has articulated and advanced this emerging discipline through his work, including the book Human-Centered Data Science: An Introduction. His research spans algorithmic decision-making and the design and evaluation of artificial intelligence in public services, with a focus on child welfare, healthcare systems, and disadvantaged populations. His work has earned multiple awards, including the Way-Klingler Early Career Award in 2019, the Connaught New Researcher Award in 2021, and the Schwartz-Reisman Institute for Technology and Society Fellowship for 2023-2025.
