Mark Billinghurst

Mark Billinghurst is an internationally renowned scholar in the fields of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). He currently serves as a professor at the University of South Australia and the University of Auckland in New Zealand, and is the director of the Empathic Computing Laboratory. He earned his PhD from the University of Washington in 2002 and has published over 650 academic papers in AR, VR, and empathic computing. His research focuses on integrating virtual and real-world experiences, particularly in remote collaboration and human-computer interaction. In 2013, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand, and in 2019, he received the ISMAR Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contributions to AR research and commercialization. Additionally, he was inducted into the ACM SIGCHI Academy and IEEE VGTC VR Academy in 2022, recognizing him as a leading researcher in human-computer interaction and virtual reality.
