Agathe Balayn

Dr. Agathe Balayn is a computer science researcher specializing in human-computer interaction and algorithmic fairness. She currently works as a postdoctoral researcher in the FATE Group at Microsoft Research. Her research focuses on the potential harms of machine learning systems in societal applications, root cause analyses, and solutions. Her work encompasses the characterization of machine learning pipelines, policy support, and the development of tools for practitioners. She holds a Master's and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, as well as an Engineering Diploma in Systems and Control from ENSTA ParisTech in France. Previously, she held postdoctoral researcher positions at various faculties of Delft University of Technology and was a visiting researcher at ServiceNow and the University of Trento in Italy. Her research methods combine empirical studies, algorithm development, literature reviews, and policy reflections to advance the development and application of fairer and more transparent AI systems.
