Alexandra Olteanu

Alexandra Olteanu is a researcher active in the fields of Computational Social Science and Social Computing. She is currently a Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research Montreal and is part of the Fairness, Accountability, Transparency, and Ethics (FATE) team. She is also an Industry Affiliate at Mila. Her research focuses on improving the rigor and human agency of AI systems, with particular attention to assumptions and practices in the design, evaluation, and deployment of AI systems. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from EPFL and was previously a Social Good Fellow at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. Her work spans areas such as the ethics of AI accountability, data bias, and social computing. She has published in leading international conferences and has received multiple research awards.
