Robert Xiao

Robert Xiao is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC), specializing in research areas including human-computer interaction, augmented reality, virtual reality, computer security, and privacy. He is a core member of the interdisciplinary research cluster Designing for People, committed to combining computer science, mathematics, and electronics to develop innovative interaction technologies leveraging sensors, machine learning, and computer vision. His research spans various domains, such as enhancing touchscreen input, designing novel motion tracking systems, and creating projection-based interfaces. During his Ph.D. studies, he worked under the guidance of Chris Harrison and Scott Hudson at Carnegie Mellon University's Human-Computer Interaction Institute. He also completed his bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Combinatorial Optimization at the University of Waterloo. Additionally, Robert Xiao is an enthusiast of network security competitions, securing multiple championships at events like DEF CON CTF.
