Sylvain Malacria

Sylvain Malacria is a research scientist at the French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation (Inria) affiliated with the LOKI research team. His research focuses on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), specifically on designing interaction systems and techniques that are easy for novice users to learn while delivering high efficiency for expert users. He has achieved significant research breakthroughs in graphical user interface (GUI) learning and command selection and is the principal investigator of the ANR JCJC Discovery project, which explores GUI designs to improve interaction discoverability. Sylvain has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at University College London and the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. He completed his Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction at Télécom ParisTech in France. He is currently an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Waterloo, Canada (2021-2028) and a JSPS invited researcher at the University of Tokyo, Japan. His work provides theoretical and practical insights into improving user learning and discovery of interaction techniques.
