Michitaka Hirose

Michitaka Hirose, born in 1954, is an Emeritus Professor of The University of Tokyo and a pioneer in the field of Virtual Reality. He received his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from The University of Tokyo in 1977, 1979, and 1982, respectively. Since 1982, Professor Hirose has been teaching at The University of Tokyo, holding positions as Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor. His main research areas include Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Human-Computer Interaction, and Wearable Technology. He is one of the founders of the Virtual Reality Society of Japan (VRSJ) and has served as its president. His contributions to the VR field include the development of the large immersive environment CABIN system and the advancement of various sensory-enhanced interaction technologies. His research has been recognized with numerous international awards, such as the Golden Award of the Tokyo Tech Forum (1995) and the IEEE VGTC Career Award in Virtual Reality (2015). Currently, he leads the service VR project at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST) of The University of Tokyo.
