Laura Devendorf

Laura Devendorf is an Associate Professor at the ATLAS Institute and Department of Information Science at the University of Colorado Boulder, and the Director of the Unstable Design Lab. She is an artist and technology researcher working primarily in human-computer interaction and design research, exploring alternative relationships between people and machines in creative practice. Her recent work focuses on smart textiles, combining computational design tools with cultural reflection on gendered labor, material culture, and how wearable technologies shape lived environments. Her research areas include interaction design, science and technology studies, digital fabrication, and dynamic textiles. She also develops AdaCAD, an open-source parametric tool for complex weave design. [^1]

She earned a B.A. in Studio Art and a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a PhD from the School of Information at the University of California, Berkeley. She has received support through the National Science Foundation CAREER program and multiple SIGCHI/Best of CHI paper awards; her research has also been featured on National Public Radio. [^2]
