Susanne Poeller

Susanne Poeller is an Assistant Professor in Human-Computer Interaction at Utrecht University. Her research focuses on digital games and player behaviors, leveraging motivational psychology theories such as Motivational Tendencies Theory, Self-Determination Theory, as well as Belonging and Power Motives, to deeply analyze players' intrinsic drives and social interactions. Her work spans various topics, including the effects of social exclusion on gaming experience, toxic communication in gaming environments, the role of social anxiety in player motivation, and how players satisfy their innate needs. She earned her PhD from Trier University and is an active scholar in the field of game studies.
