Reem Talhouk

Dr. Reem Refaat Talhouk is an Associate Professor at the School of Design, Arts, and Creative Industries at Northumbria University, specializing in research on the application of technology and design methodologies in humanitarian contexts. Her research explores the intersection of technology design, humanitarian innovation practices, public health, and community resilience in marginalized contexts, with a particular focus on enhancing the health, safety, and agency of refugees and asylum seekers through innovative design. Dr. Talhouk has conducted extensive fieldwork in the Middle East, Europe, and Australia and has been awarded the 2020 Young Digital Leader Award and Newcastle University's Prize for Outstanding PhD Thesis in Medical Sciences. She actively participates in academic communities such as the Participatory Design Conference and is committed to advancing decolonial design practices and the principles of design justice.
