Pourang Irani

Pourang Irani is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus, and holds the position of Research Chair in Pervasive Analytics. His research focuses on human-computer interaction and information visualization, with an emphasis on designing and studying innovative interactive systems that enable users to perceive and explore information efficiently, anytime and anywhere. His team extensively utilizes mixed reality and wearable technologies to develop cutting-edge visual interfaces and devices. Professor Irani joined UBC in January 2022 after 19 years at the University of Manitoba, where he also served as Acting Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of New Brunswick in 2002 and is the Principal Investigator of the NSERC CREATE Visual and Automated Disease Analytics program, dedicated to training the next generation of health data scientists.
