Matthias Kohler

Matthias Kohler is a highly influential architect in the field of digital architecture and a professor at ETH Zürich at the Department of Architecture and Digital Fabrication. His research interests span interdisciplinary areas such as computational design, robotic fabrication, and material innovation. In 2000, he co-founded Gramazio & Kohler Architecture with Fabio Gramazio, completing numerous award-winning projects since. His research team established the world’s first architectural robotic laboratory at ETH Zürich, advancing the integration of industrial robotics into architectural design and additive manufacturing processes. His publication, The Robotic Touch: How Robots Change Architecture, delves into the impact of robotics within architecture. Additionally, he served as director of the Swiss National Research Centre (NCCR) on Digital Fabrication and has participated in numerous international conferences and exhibitions, including the Venice Architecture Biennale and RobArch Symposium.
