Bjoern Hartmann

Björn Hartmann is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley, and holds the Paul and Judy Gray Alumni Presidential Chair for Engineering Excellence. His research focuses on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Human-AI Interaction (HAI), aiming to amplify human creativity and problem-solving capabilities through computation. Combining computer science, cognitive science, and design, his work develops UI design tools, end-user programming environments, and crowdsourcing systems to help both professionals and non-experts more efficiently create interactive applications. Professor Hartmann's research has been published in top conferences such as CHI, UIST, and ACM Transactions on Computer-Human Interaction and has been repeatedly supported by NSF funding as well as recognized by ACM SIGCHI. His current research interests include interactions between generative AI and design and programming activities, the development of novel hybrid reality technologies, and tool development for embedded systems and digital fabrication.
