Niklas Elmqvist

Niklas Elmqvist is an internationally renowned scholar in data visualization and human-computer interaction. He is currently a full professor in the Department of Computer Science at Aarhus University, Denmark, and the director of the Center for Anytime Anywhere Analytics. He previously held academic positions at the University of Maryland and Purdue University, and served as the director of the Human-Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL) at the University of Maryland from 2016 to 2021. His research interests include information visualization, visual analytics, and immersive analytics. He is actively involved in prominent international academic organizations such as IEEE and ACM, holding key positions. He has received several academic awards, including the NSF CAREER Award, and was elected as an IEEE and ACM Fellow in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
