Tanushree Mitra

Tanushree (Tanu) Mitra is an Associate Professor at the Information School, University of Washington, an Adjunct Professor at the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science and Engineering, and the Founding Co-Director of the Center for Responsible Artificial Intelligence Systems and Experiences (RAISE). Her research focuses on human-centered AI and responsible AI, combining computing technology, artificial intelligence, natural language processing (NLP), and social science approaches to analyze complex social behaviors in online and human-machine interactions. She leads the Social Computing and Algorithmic Experiences Lab (SCALE), adopting interdisciplinary methods inspired by human-computer interaction, large-scale data analysis, machine learning, and natural language processing to develop systems that support human behavior and social computing. Her research spans generative AI, algorithmic decision audits, and combating misinformation.
