Sang Won Lee

Sang Won Lee is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech and a Visiting Researcher at NAVER AI Lab. His research lies at the intersection of human-computer interaction (HCI), computer-mediated empathy, and creative computing. He focuses on leveraging technologies such as conversational agents, virtual reality, and personal informatics to foster empathy, support self-reflection, and enable inclusive collaboration. Combining empirical studies with the design and evaluation of interactive systems, his work has earned multiple Best Paper Awards at top conferences, including ACM CHI and Creativity & Cognition. Additionally, he has showcased his research through music performances in peer-reviewed venues. His work "Live Writing: Gloomy Streets" won the 2016 International Computer Music Association Music Award. Sang Won Lee earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Michigan and holds master's degrees from Georgia Tech and Stanford University in related fields.
