Marti Hearst

Marti A. Hearst is a professor at the University of California, Berkeley School of Information, and also serves in the Berkeley Department of Computer Science. Her research areas include information visualization, human-computer interaction, information retrieval, and natural language processing. Professor Hearst is renowned for her early contributions to automated text processing, particularly the invention of the widely applied Hearst Patterns in text mining. Additionally, she is one of the pioneers of faceted navigation technology and authored the first academic book on search user interfaces, titled Search User Interfaces. Her research has had a profound impact on both academia and industry, earning her several honors including the ACM Fellow distinction.
