Jian Zhao

Dr. Jian Zhao is an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo and the director of the WVisdom research lab. His research spans the areas of Information Visualization (InfoVis), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Data Science, and Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (Human-Centered AI). He is dedicated to developing novel interactive systems and visual representations that tightly integrate machine learning and algorithms, aiming to empower users with flexibility and creativity while optimizing the efficiency of human-data interaction. His work has received multiple best paper awards or honorable mentions at top conferences such as IEEE VIS and ACM CHI. Dr. Jian Zhao holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Toronto and has worked in the Dynamic Graphics Project (DGP) lab.
