Jas Brooks

Jas Brooks (they/them) is an incoming Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (MIT EECS/CSAIL). Their research focuses on chemical interfaces and human-computer interaction. Jas completed their Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Chicago under the guidance of Professor Pedro Lopes, specializing in developing chemical sensory interfaces such as devices that manipulate olfaction, taste, and thermal perception through chemistry. Jas's research spans multisensory experience, low-power thermal feedback devices, and directional scent technologies. They have received multiple ACM CHI Best Paper Awards and have interned at Microsoft Research. Their work not only garners attention in academia but also finds applications in health, meditation, virtual reality, and education.
