David Kirk

David Kirk is a Professor of Human-Computer Interaction and Director of Research at the School of Computing, Newcastle University. He is a founding member of Open Lab and served as its Director for six years. His research focuses on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and human-centered design, exploring the nature of digital human experiences through design research approaches, including fieldwork, prototyping, and speculative design. His work spans various application domains such as video communication, cultural heritage memories, smart homes, and human-data interaction. He has held academic positions at institutions including Microsoft Research and the University of Nottingham and has contributed to significant research projects, such as the EPSRC Digital Economy Research Centre and the Northern Health Science Alliance's Centre for Digital Innovation for Health and Wellbeing.
