Melissa Mazmanian

Melissa Mazmanian is a professor in the School of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, as well as a joint professor in the Paul Merage School of Business, and serves as the Chair of the Department of Informatics. Her research focuses on the use of communication technologies in organizational and personal contexts, particularly examining the interaction between the nature of time and societal norms in the digital era. Her work explores how the always-online culture affects work-life balance and the role of quantification practices and formal power structures within organizations. She employs qualitative research methods, focusing on topics such as smartphone use, budgeting, and electronic health system implementation, and has published extensively on these subjects. Mazmanian holds a PhD in Organizational Studies from MIT Sloan School of Management and an MSc in Information Economics, Management, and Policy from the School of Information at the University of Michigan.
