James J. Gross

James J. Gross is the Ernest R. Hilgard Professor of Psychology at Stanford University and serves as the Director of the Stanford Center for Affective Science and the Psychophysiology Laboratory. His research focuses on emotion regulation, encompassing topics such as emotion coherence, automatic emotion regulation, and specific strategies for regulating emotions (e.g., cognitive reappraisal, emotion suppression). He has authored over 650 academic papers, with total citations exceeding 250,000. He has received numerous awards for his outstanding contributions to teaching and research, including several teaching awards from Stanford University, research awards from the American Psychological Association, and honorary doctorates from KU Leuven (Belgium), Tilburg University (Netherlands), and The Education University of Hong Kong. Additionally, he is a co-founder and the inaugural president of the Society for Affective Science and the founding editor-in-chief of Affective Science.
