Sara Heitlinger

Sara Heitlinger is a researcher, artist, and designer specializing in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). She is currently a lecturer in Computer Science at City, University of London. Her research interests include sustainability, participatory design, and the Internet of Things, with a particular focus on interactions between grassroots communities and the environment in urban contexts. Her practice-led research emphasizes "more-than-human" design and explores how technology and design can support more sustainable food practices through interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement. Sara previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Newcastle University’s Open Lab and Global Urban Research Unit, where she led the "Connected Seeds and Sensors" project. She holds a PhD in Media and Arts Technology from Queen Mary University of London and was awarded the UNESCO Digital Arts Award for her contributions to digital arts and environmental sustainability.
