Edward Jay Wang

Edward Jay Wang is a tenured Associate Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Design Lab at the University of California, San Diego, where he also holds the Jacobs Faculty Chair in Entrepreneurship. He founded and leads the UCSD Digital Health Technologies Lab, whose work focuses on point-of-need medical technologies: combining mobile and embedded prototyping, signal processing, machine learning, biosensors, and human-centered design to create medical-grade health monitoring in homes, workplaces, clinics, and resource-limited settings. His research includes smartphone-based measurement of hemoglobin, blood pressure, grip strength, and pupillometry, as well as wearable and postpartum health technologies.

He is also Founder and CEO of Billion Labs Inc. and Founder and CTO of Motion Minder Inc. Public materials list honors including the NIH Trailblazer Award, Google Research Scholar, Google Health Equity Research Initiative Award, Don Norman Foundation Design Award Laureate, and NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, along with nine paper awards. In 2026, he is listed as a Visiting Associate Professor in Bioengineering at Stanford University while on sabbatical.
