Michael Fernandes is a student-athlete at Washington and Lee University, serving as a kicker for the rugby team. He joined the university team for the 2023-24 season. During high school, he attended Glenelg High School, where he was a four-year member of the varsity team and contributed to winning the county and regional championships in 2021. Individually, he was twice named to the All-Metro Second Team and received the Principal's Award. Outside of athletics, Fernandes demonstrates academic excellence by completing coursework in organic chemistry and participating in the university’s Summer Research Scholars (SRS) program in the summer of 2025.
