Trust-preserving uncertainty communication acknowledges local doubt while supporting justified trust in honesty, boundary management, and recovery. The goal is not maximal ratings but reliance matched to ability; reduced delegation in a weak region can indicate success.
Why it happens
Bare “uncertain” wording without cause or next step can imply general incompetence. Stable explanation of source, conservative action, and evidence-based updating lets users localise the issue. Consistency makes limitation disclosure a predictable competence rather than a global trust loss.
Studying it
Hidden uncertainty, bare warning, cause-plus-action, and calibrated wording can be compared longitudinally on local delegation, global capability judgement, appropriate reliance, recovery, and outcome. Trust reduction is beneficial when it tracks low reliability. Wording and actual calibration need joint manipulation.
Where it stops holding
Disclosure cannot compensate for chronically weak performance or interruption; capability still matters. Performative humility inconsistent with behaviour worsens distrust. Safety dominates short-term impression, and vulnerable users should not carry complex probability decisions.

- State scope, cause, conservative action, and evidence required for recovery.
- Keep confidence language semantically stable rather than mixing politeness with stop conditions.
