Confirmation must present the specific object and the consequence

What it is

A gate whose inside is only “Confirm send?” or “Delete?” still leaves the person not knowing what is being done to what. Confirmation shows object and consequence: the object is the one that will be touched (which mail, which rows, which amount); the consequence is what the world will be after the crossing (who receives, what disappears, whether it is outward). Both blocks have to be there; miss one and the gate is empty.

“Send” is an act category. “To finance@, with budget.xlsx, cannot be recalled” is a confirmation.

Why it happens

Release is a judgement, and the material of the judgement is “this one” and “what will happen.” A category label only launches a habitual yes: many mails have been sent, so this one too. The object breaks the habit and forces this instance out of the category; the consequence renders irreversibility as an imaginable change in the world, not merely a verb. Miss the object and people may know it is serious without knowing where; miss the consequence and they see a name but estimate as if it were reversible.

This is the minimum material of confirm-as-judgement, not how a list must be inspectable, nor whether a batch should expand. If the minimum is incomplete, those finer moves have no floor.

Studying it

Hold the same harmful act, compare three copies: verb only, object only, object plus consequence. Dependent variables: stop rate, decision time, whether before clicking people can recast “who is touched, what will happen.” Independent variables: whether the consequence writes irreversibility, whether the object can be opened.

Recast is the primary endpoint. Fast clicks that cannot recast object or consequence mean the gate entered clicking, not judging.

Where it stops holding

When objects are too many the dialog cannot hold them all — that is a batch-list problem — but it must still point at “these objects” and write the type of consequence; it must not fall back to a bare verb. Frequent popups will be clicked through even with complete material; that is a frequency problem. Which acts qualify for a gate is already drawn by irreversible/outward; this entry only treats what is written on the gate.

Applying it

• Fix two columns on the confirm: object (a concrete item that can be opened) and consequence (who is affected, whether outward, whether recallable). Missing a column, do not light release.
• Write the verb inside the consequence, not as a title on its own. “Delete” should read “remove customer A’s order from production, not recoverable.”
• Check: write object and consequence of a harmful item correctly, write the verb as ordinary. If people still release and cannot recast the object, the material was not read. Remove the consequence column and measure stop rate again — if it drops, consequence was not decoration.
