Francois Guimbretiere

François Guimbretière is a professor in the Department of Information Science at Cornell University. His research focuses on exploring how hardware and software co-design can enable innovative interactions across various application domains. Guimbretière’s work combines system building with design, aiming to turn visions of seamless future interactions into reality. His early work focused on pen-based interactive interfaces for paper and screens; more recently, he has been investigating interactive printing and yarn-based manufacturing technologies as new approaches to fabrication. He is also interested in the intersection of human-computer interaction and sustainability, particularly in designing immersive and engaging remote collaboration interfaces to reduce dependency on physical travel. He completed his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in artificial intelligence and earned his Master’s and Ph.D. in Computer Science at Stanford University. He has been a faculty member at Cornell University since 2009.
