Hamed Alavi

Hamed S. Alavi is a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the Informatics Institute of the University of Amsterdam and a founding member of the Digital Interactions Lab. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at University College London (UCL). Alavi’s research focuses on the intersection of human-computer interaction and the built environment, exploring how technology and design can contribute to inclusive smart cities and intelligent buildings. His work aims to create interactive spaces that reflect societal values and identity through design, data, and AI technologies. He also led an edtech startup serving a global audience. Recently, his research has focused on inclusive urban design, with a grant of €3.8 million to investigate the removal of mobility barriers in cities.
