Li Chen

Professor Li Chen is a Professor and Deputy Research Director in the Department of Computer Science at Hong Kong Baptist University. She is also an affiliated professor at the Academy of Visual Arts and School of Health and Human Sciences at the university. Professor Chen holds a PhD in Computer Science from EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland) as well as Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer Science from Peking University. Her research expertise includes conversational AI, explainable AI, recommender systems, and human-computer interaction, with applications spanning entertainment, digital media, education, e-commerce, and mental health. Professor Chen has published over 150 high-impact journal and conference papers and received numerous honors, including Best Paper Awards or Student Paper Awards at RecSys, CHI, UMAP, and UMUAI. She is a Senior Member of the ACM and serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of ACM Transactions on Recommender Systems (TORS), Associate Editor of User Modeling and User-Adapted Interaction (UMUAI), and Associate Editor of ACM Transactions on Interactive Intelligent Systems (TiiS). She is also an Executive Committee Member of the RecSys conference. Since 2021, she has been listed among the top 2% of globally cited scientists, as identified by Stanford University.
