Lena Mamykina

Lena Mamykina is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University. She has a comprehensive academic background, including a Master's and PhD in Human-Computer Interaction and Human-Centered Computing from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Master's degree and Postdoctoral training in Biomedical Informatics from Columbia University. Her research covers the fields of biomedical informatics, human-computer interaction, ubiquitous computing, and computer-supported cooperative work. Her work primarily investigates the cognitive and problem-solving processes of individuals and collectives in health management, focusing on communication and coordination in clinical team workflows, as well as collective cognition and knowledge sharing in online health support communities. Additionally, she develops intelligent interactive systems supporting individual health and medical decision-making and explores how informatics interventions can optimize the functioning of healthcare systems. Currently, she leads the Action Research for Collective Health (ARCH) research team, focusing on creating innovative technologies to help individuals and communities enhance health outcomes and promote health equity.
