Primal Wijesekera

Primal Wijesekera is a senior research scientist in the Usable Security and Privacy Research team at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) and also serves in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) at the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on uncovering current privacy vulnerabilities and providing systematic solutions to meet consumer privacy expectations, with extensive experience in mobile app privacy protection and Android permissions implementation. He has published numerous papers in top-tier security and privacy conferences, including IEEE S&P, USENIX Security, ACM CHI, SOUPS, and PETS. His work has received multiple international awards, such as the Caspar Bowden Award for Outstanding Research in Privacy Enhancing Technologies and the USENIX Security Distinguished Paper Award. Primal Wijesekera holds a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia, where he conducted academic work at the University of California, Berkeley during his doctoral studies. Additionally, he completed a Master's degree in Distributed Systems at the University of British Columbia and earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka.
