Josef Nguyen

Josef Nguyen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Film, Television, and Media at the University of Michigan, where he is also affiliated with the Digital Studies Institute and the Science, Technology, and Society program. His research spans media studies, science and technology studies, feminism, and queer theory, with a focus on the significance of technological labor and design within digital culture. His areas of inquiry include consent in digital technologies, creative labor and economies, sexuality and technology, queer and trans games, DIY culture, crafting, and fan media. His first book, The Digital Is Kid Stuff, examines the roles and cultural implications of youth in the creative economy and was awarded the 2022 First Book Prize by the Cultural Studies Association. He is currently working on his second book, titled Click to Agree, which explores the cultural politics of consent in digital technologies.
